Pair of Early 19th Century American Tole Monteiths
3,700.00
A pair of early tole, painted metal monteiths with wonderful patina and form. Monteiths, filled with cool water or ice, were used for chilling wine bottles and cooling or rinsing wine glasses; the latter were inverted and hung from the notched rim. These would be wonderful as planters or as decoration as is on a table or sideboard or fireplace mantel, among other places. This pair of monteiths has large strap handles and a beautiful, large cursive monogram, with an interlaced F and S (?) in gold on a black oval field with an acanthus leaf border. American, circa 1810.
