SOLD--Pair of English Neoclassical Creamware Chestnut Baskets, circa 1790

A pair of Leeds creamware enameled reticulated chestnut baskets, English circa 1790, of oval form with hand painted neoclassical terra cotta and black decoration on the interior and exterior of the tops of each, inspired by Ancient Greek pottery, with tree branch handles. Retaining old B. Altman, New York labels affixed to bottoms, together with inscribed inventory numbers from a collection.

Beautiful as centerpieces, filled with fruit or flowers, on a dining table, side board or mantel.
