Set of Six Aesthetic Movement Period Dining Chairs

12,700.00

An unusual and well made matched set of six Aesthetic Movement period dining chairs by Charles Yardell & Co, New York, with upholstered backs and seats, the side rails with shepherd's crook swan's heads and necks over ring- turned decoration, the seats over tapering square legs with Japanese fretwork decoration at the corners connected to front and side cross stretchers. Signed with impressed Charles Yardell and Company, New York mark. These sculptural and comfortable dining chairs exhibit the 19th century Aesthetic Movement interest in Middle and Far Eastern (particularly Japanese) furniture and decorations. The curved tops of the chairs have an Egyptian flavor, while the fretwork and legs have a distinctly Japanese character. Graphic and uncommon, they would be at home in a historic or contemporary interior.
