Two Renaissance Revival Chairs and a Foot Stool

8,700.00

A beautifully made suite of American Renaissance Revival furniture, comprising 2 arm chairs, one larger than the other (his and hers), and a conforming foot stool which opens for storage, in carved walnut. These sculptural and statement-making chairs exhibit both Classical elements--like the suggestion of a carved bird's wings and the X-shaped form of the legs--and Japanese elements,--ike the stylized circular Chrysanthemum ornaments, combined, which were both style currents popular during the late 19th century. The quality of the carving and craftsmanship is excellent.

These chairs may possibly be by the firm of Pottier and Stymus, New York, circa 1875. The 3 pieces are currently upholstered in their original burgundy mohair, but may be easily reupholstered, too.
