A FRENCH GRAND TOUR GILT BRONZE SOUVENIR MODEL OF THE EGYPTIAN OBELISK AT LUXOR, NOW IN THE CENTER OF THE PLACE DE LA CONCORDE IN PARIS, ON A WHITE MARBLE BASE, WITH THERMOMETER. French, 19th century.

The actual obelisk is in pink granite originally marked the entrance to the Amon temple at Luxor, and is more than 3,300 years old. Gilded images on the pedestal depict the monumental task of transporting the monolith to Paris and erecting it the square in the 1830s.
