A fine original Swiss lithograph poster, circa 1910, by Jean Morax for the play, "Aliénor" (French for Eleanor (of Acquitaine)), written by René Morax with music by Gustave Doret, a 'legend' in five acts, lasting from 2 to 5 1/2 hours (!), in Arts & Crafts period medieval revival style, depicting 2 figures, 1 with a harp, in an autumnal landscape of golden leaved birch trees, rolling farmland and an expansive walled city in the distance. Printed by J. Mangenat, Lausanne, Switzerland. With pencil inscription from the artist to a Monsieur Ritter, in the upper right corner.

Some foxing on edges. Overall very clean with fresh, bright colors. New archival framing with UV resistant plexiglass.

René Morax was best known as a playwright who also founded the Theatre du Jorat where he staged historically based plays and revived a tradition of popular theater, introducing folk-themed music by well-known composers, including Arthur Honegger and Gustave Doret.
