Austrian Secessionist Ceramic Basket after a Josef Hoffmann Design

850.00

A Viennese Secessionist blue and green glazed ceramic basket after a design by Josef Hoffmann, of rectangular form, with a geometric, angled carrying handle, the exterior decorated overall with embossed squares, the bottom raised on four small square feet. The interior is glazed in a solid slate blue. Impressed Austria mark and the shape number 4990 together with a manuscript inscription on the bottom, circa 1920’s.

Beautiful form and color, this basket would be beautiful with flowers in it or just as decoration on its own. Contemporary with the Secessionists, this pottery basket was not made by the workshops of the Wiener Werkstätte, but rather more commercially, following their designs. Excellent condition, with no damage of any kind.

Height: 5 3/8” Width: 11 3/4” Depth: 4 1/4”
