SOLD--Unusual 19th Century Pink Lustreware Staffordshire Pottery Covered Jar

0.00

An unusual 19th century English pink lustreware Staffordshire pottery covered vessel, the domed top with a tall, elaborate urn shaped finial over a circular base with reeded flared rim and spreading foot, decorated overall with a wonderfully freehand pink, grey, charcoal and pale orange brushed, dripped and blotted soft metallic glaze. Likely part of a smoking set. The design derives from a Grand Tour interest in simulating colorfully figured marbles and reads, to our eyes, as very modern. Think Jackson Pollock and other Abstract Expressionists do Staffordshire pottery. Beautiful as an antique object with a modern vibe and functional as a storage jar.

Height: 11 1/2” Diameter: 6”
